Fatah is on a collision course with itself
Despite strong opposition from Fatah’s Executive Committee, Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has decided to hold the pivotal Fatah congress in the West Bank in the first week of August.
The decision, taken without consultation with the senior Fatah leadership, has already generated a lot of tension and confusion within the movement, raising fears that Fatah might fall victim to possible fragmentation and disintegration. Read More…
US politician urges Iran ’sabotage’
The former speaker of the US House of Representatives has said that the US should “sabotage” Iran’s oil and gas infrastructure as part of its efforts to bring down the government.In an interview with Al Jazeera’s Avi Lewis for the Fault Lines programme, Republican Newt Gingrich said targeting Iran’s refinery would spark an economic crisis that would destabilise the government in Tehran.
MTW comment: Isn’t this illegal? Why is Gingrich not arrested and charged with inciting hatred and encouraging crime? Just imagine the outrage in the media, if someone had said this about Israel.
Mubarak: Israel’s request of recognition of Jewish state unacceptable
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said in an interview published on Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth Friday that Israel’s request for a Palestinian recognition of a Jewish state is unacceptable. “Don’t you have Arab citizens in Israel? You want to turn Israel into a Jewish state only? That’s very bad. I’m telling you, it’s a serious mistake which will harm you,” Mubarak warned the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
