New Yorkers protest the piracy on the Mediterranean
On Wednesday afternoon, July 1st, hundreds of people gathered in NYC outside the Israeli Consulate to protest an act of piracy by the Israeli Navy.
The navy attacked the Spirit of Humanity, a small boat flying the flag of Cyprus, in international waters, which was loaded with humanitarian supplies for the people of Gaza.
The 21 aide workers were kidnapped and taken to Israel where they are still being held. One of the aide workers was Cynthia McKinney, former representative to the House of Representatives from Georgia and candidate for president on the Green Party ticket.
The demonstration was called by NYC Councilmember Charles Barron and supported by several groups that oppose the Israeli occupation of Palestine and want justice for the Palestinian people. Read More…

A moment of truth for Obama in Moscow
Through a series of labyrinthine maneuverings, Russia has sought leverage in US-Russia relations by offering greater cooperation to President Barack Obama over Afghanistan. It is possible that at a juncture when the overall US-Russia relationship is lurching dangerously close to breakdown, cooperation in the Hindu Kush might provide a much-needed leitmotif for Monday’s summit in Moscow.

Time for an Israeli Strike on Iran?
Here goes the warmonger, neocon, and Israel’s backer, again. John Bolton, one of the cabal fellows that pushed America to war with Iraq “on a pack of lies,” is back on track – an evil ghost from the past, now plotting to sabotage President Obama’s “New Beginning” policy in order to promote a new war against Iran and ensure the security of Israel’s illegal expansion in the region.
By invoking, contrary to the evidence, Iran’s alleged “nuclear weapons program” and Iran’s allegedly “stolen election”, Bolton is trying to re-invent the Nazi Minister Joseph Goebbels’ technique of propaganda, which is based on the principle that a lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses.

Hamas’ political impasse: Between principal and necessity
Much can be said to explain, or even justify Hamas’ recent political concessions, where its top leaders in Gaza and Damascus agreed in principle with a political settlement on the basis of the two-state solution.
On June 25, Damascus-based leader of the Islamic group’s political bureau, Khaled Meshaal reiterated Hamas’ rejection of recognizing Israel as a Jewish State, rightfully dubbing such a designation as “racist, no different from Nazis and other calls denounced by the international community.” However, he did endorse the idea of a two-state solution, which envisages the creation of an independent Palestinian state on roughly 22 percent of the land of historic Palestine.
Ethnic Cleansing as a State Policy
In his speech at Bar Ilan University on June 14, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed a new Israeli “peace plan,” with preconditions that a Palestinian negotiator must first meet before he would “promptly” engage in “unconditional” bilateral talks to meet an international consensus demanding the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. His preconditions added to the fourteen conditions the former Israeli government of comatose Ariel Sharon attached to Israel’s adoption in grudge of the 2003 Road Map blueprint for peace with the Palestinian side.
It is a forgone conclusion that Netanyahu’s preconditions — Palestinian recognition of Israel as a “Jewish state,” “demilitarization” of the prospective Palestinian less-than-a-sovereign state, and preserving Israel’s illegitimate “right” to expand its illegal colonial Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories — will fare worse than Sharon’s conditions.
Netanyahu demanded that the “Palestinian population,” and not the Palestinian people — who live “in Judea and Samaria,” and not in the Israeli – occupied Palestinian territory, where there is an “Israeli presence,” and not an Israeli military occupation — should first agree to a “public, binding and unequivocal” recognition that Israel is “the nation state of the Jewish people” worldwide, and not the nation state of the Israelis. MTW comment: Finally, somebody is approaching the true intention behind this “condition.” By demanding that Israel is recognized as a nation state of the Jewish people worldwide, and not the nation state of the Israelis alone, Israel wants to ensure that all Jews, regardless of where they live, will hold a legitimate Israeli citizenship, while the political and civil rights of the Arab minority remain undefined. The reason? Israel’s fear that the Arab population of Israel proper will outgrow the Jewish population and become a majority. There! This is the real reason behind the “Jewish state” mantra.
